There are so many places to explore in Yellowstone National Park. The park itself sits on three different states and spans across 3,472 square miles. Throughout the park there are tons of different plant, wildlife, and geographic areas to enjoy.
The main reason the park was established in 1972 was because of these natural beauties. The park has the largest collection of Geysers in the world. This collection includes the famous, Old Faithful. I would suggest seeing this a majestic landmark as well as some other really breathtaking spots that I have listed below.
Old Faithful Area –Waterfalls (Kepler Cascades)
Kepler Cascades is located in between the Western and Southern Entrances of the park.
There will be a lot of climbing involved in this stop, but it is well worth it. Once you see the waterfall, you will be reminded of just how small we are in the grand scheme of everything.
This is the most easily reached waterfall in the area. This particular waterfall is a 125 foot cascade. The Kepler Cascades is an incredible site to see. The massive waterfall can make anyone feel so small compared to the rest of the world. Its majestic size and beauty would overwhelm anyone.
There is a hike to a set of stairs where visitors can take to get a better view of the waterfall. To get a really good view of the Kepler Cascades you will need to take a number of stairs. I would not suggest this location for anyone that is not prepared for taking a steep set of stairs. The incline is steep going down and takes a while to descend but the climb up is what can get anyone that is not prepared for the steep set of stairs.
Old Faithful Area- Lower Geyser Basin (Fountain Paint Pots)
Fountain Patin Pots is located in between the Western and Southern Entrances of the park.
Visiting these gyres you will feel like you stepped onto another planet. The rich colors that the bacteria in these natural springs are majestic. This spot reminds us of the uniqueness of our world.
The park has set this area up so you can go on a nice smooth hike around incredible geysers. This area is close to Yellowstone Lake as well as some forested areas. Traveling around the geysers you notice all kinds of vibrant colors in the geyser pools. All kinds of different bacteria inhabit these geyser pools and their presence makes the pools so extraordinary.
Fountain Paint Pots was my ultimate favorite of my entire trip. Visiting this spot was literally like traveling to another planet. The vibrance of the geyser pools was merely incredible. I have never seen anything like this area and I do not believe there is another place on Earth quite like it. The area was just incredible and I would recommend it to anyone going to the park.
Mammoth Hot Springs Area -Mammoth Hot Springs
The Mammoth Hot Springs are located close to the Northern Entrance of the park.
These natural springs are much different from other parts of the park. These are travertine formations that grow rapidly due to the fact that limestone has a softer nature than other rock forms.
Traveling to Mammoth Hot Springs is similar to visiting some of the other geysers in Yellowstone because it also looks like you are visiting a different planet. The white limestone is created in extremely interesting ways because of the rapid growth rate. The white chalky mineral that is deposited on the surface of the limestone occurs as hot water rises through the rock.
The location of the springs as well as the rate of flow changes daily at Mammoth Hot Springs. It changes so quickly due to the volume of water that is discharged by all of the springs.
I would highly suggest stopping at Mammoth Hot Springs on your adventure. This is an extremely interesting set of rock formation to see. While enjoying the beauty of this area in the park you can also enjoy a nice hike around the formations. The mere uniqueness of the travertine formations makes it a stop that anyone would enjoy.
